MacWorld / Elizabethtown

Last night we watched a nice copy of Elizabethtown - the lastest release from Cameron Crowe (due out on DVD in February). As with most movies from Mr. Crowe it truly is a beautiful, personal and touching film. Of course the great pleasure I get from his movies is the mixing of the music selections with his visual images. I’ll certainly be seeking this soundtrack out very shortly. Fans of Jerry Maguire will certainly appreciate Elizabethtown, though I felt that Orlando Bloom as the lead role was fairly flat. The rest of the actors had me believing in them, but as a man near the edge of suicide Orlando just didn’t pull it off. But I can assure you I’ll be buying the DVD for the improved quality over last nights VCD and also to hear Mr. Crowe’s always entertaining commentary tracks (iPod Video tip of the day: HandBrake allows you to select which DVD audio track and subtitles you want to rip to video! I tested this with Amelie over the weekend it worked perfectly.).

MWSF2006: My disappointment that FrontRow was not included within the iLife ‘06 release yesterday is completely outweighed by the fact that Apple releases Intel based machines six months early. Not to mention the fact that I still ended up ordering iLife ‘06 yesterday in all the Apple frenzy that MacWorld provided. Seems musicians using Garageband 3 now are one step away from being able to push a button and have their tracks either online with their .mac account or maybe even in the iTunes music store! I was surprised to see a lot more focus from Apple on Podcasting and Vidcasting - do these mediums really help them sell more iPods? With regard to FrontRow 1.0, guess I’ll need to tweak the hack I have for the time being and maybe hope for a 2Ghz Intel Mini with FrontRow come Summer!
