80s Airwaves WILL return as a Podcast!
Did you not make it until Midnight on Friday? Here’s the last song we played on 80s Airwaves - the radio station. It was dedicated to Rodney Bingenheimer.
As we sipped our champagne and listened to the final hour of our radio station, Aimee and I discussed what to do next. Those of you who know me or have at least kept up-to-date with these blog posts will not be suprised to learn that we’ve decided to turn 80s Airwaves into a weekly audio program, easily downloadable to your portable music device or direct from the web page (just like the audio file above). The program will focus on a single new release (CD or DVD) and likely contain interviews, live performances and more “fun stuff”.
If you’ve never experienced the joy of “Tivo” before or you don’t know what an RSS feed is, or maybe you don’t know what “podcasting” is don’t worry. Ultimately, understand that as it become easier for people to record their own media (both audio and video) or create their own web log, others need a way to subscribe only to the bits of information they want - and then listen to it on their own schedule. According to a Forrester poll published in the November issue of CPU magazing only 2% of computer users use an RSS feed. As browsers change and Apple adds podcast functionality into iTunes and iPod (including video) it really is just a matter of time. In the future odds are good many users will not even know they’re using RSS, just like many don’t realize what the hell HTTP is.
We’ve already got commitments from several artists with new releases out soon to be interviewed for our new audio program. Give us about 30-45 days because we do want to have some shows already recorded before going live. You will also see a major change to the 80sAirwaves.com website. The current content management system was not capable of handling file attachments in tandem with the RSS subscriptions. That will all change very shortly.
Thanks for sticking with us through this important change!
