R.I.P. S.R.V.

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

On this day, 15 years ago, a helicopter carrying Stevie Ray Vaughan and three members of Eric Clapton’s band were killed when their helicopter crashed in East Troy, WI, only about six miles from the bonus room over the garage. Can’t believe it’s been 15 years already.

Robert Moog TV Interview Uncovered!

Wednesday, August 24th, 2005

Thanks to an email from a listener yesterday (see below) I went digging for a MiniDV tape I knew I had of a 10 min. interview Patrick Norton did with Dr. Robert Moog on the late great TechTV, back on March 16, 2004. The first 15-20 seconds are troubled, but the actual interview is […]

Dr. Robert Moog RIP

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

I read the news today… Actually, it was the 80s Nuts newsletter, about the passing of Mr. Moog. A loyal listener from Kelowna, BC provided the following link and emphasized the important role the Moog played in so much of the music that came from the 80s:

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

Alright, this will sound crazy, but that’s okay:
Any true U2 fan has their favorite live recordings of the band, right? U2 has always allowed for free trading of their shows among their fans since day one. But what are the very BEST live recordings of U2, from their early days (since they became […]

Mix Tape Mondays ?

Friday, August 19th, 2005

I have been absorbing Thurston Moore’s newest book,Mix Tape, over the past month or two. It is a serious review of the mix tape as an art form during the 80’s and 90’s. Today, to paraphrase from the book, mix tapes have morphed into playlists, though not nearly as personal or long lasting. […]

Yesterday I received the releases from Simple Minds and Ric Ocasek - both of these are due to hit the streets in September, but we will start airing tracks from both starting next week Monday. Also being added to those will be tracks from the new Brian Eno and a new single only from […]

Some humpty-backed camels and some chimpanzees…

Tuesday, August 16th, 2005

After a few clicks off an email this morning I discovered that next week Friday (Aug26) Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo is hosting a concert featuring Naked Eyes, English Beat and ABC - all for the low price of $20! Give Aimee and I a heads up if you’re going and maybe we’ll bring some […]

No More Bonus Room?

Saturday, August 13th, 2005

Aimee and I are seriously consider selling our home to move a bit closer to my new job location, currently about 30 min. away. But what happens when we no longer have a “bonus room room over the garage” to broadcast from? I’ve been trying to think of a new tagline/slogan for 80s Airwaves […]
