Don’t Forget Live Aid and Live 8
It’s important that anyone visiting 80s Airwaves over the next few days remember two things:
1. The 20th Anniversary of Live Aid is coming very shortly - July 13th. I can’t say for sure what we’ll be doing that Wednesday, but I assure you it will be hard to listen and not realize what happened back on July 13th, 1985. To get things started, Hal’s Friday Night Fantasy Concert tomorrow will feature hours of music from this important 80s event with music that you will not find on any commercially released DVD or CDs. Friday Night Fantasy Concerts start at 8PM CST.
2. This Saturday is the actual Live 8 event (http://www.live8live.com). Don’t call it a comeback. Live 8 will be bigger, being held on more continents, and it will be louder because more people will be involved thanks to the internet and cell phones. There are several goals for Live 8 but I would summarize it to be: the attempt to remove extreme poverty from many nations currently plagued by both debt and disease by increasine awareness by all. This event is being timed to happen just before an important G8 convention where leaders of the world will have the opportunity to do something critical in the elimination of extreme poverty. Only after that meeting, held next week, will we know if Live 8 was successful.
To draw maximum attention to this event, 80s Airwaves will be encouraging all our normal weekend listeners and website visitors to listen and watch this historical event, and NOT listen to us. This Saturday we’ll feature a loop explaining why we are not broadcasting our normal programming. Instread, this Saturday, all you will hear is:
This is the World Calling - Bob Geldoff
An 80s Airwaves message on where to watch/listen to Live 8
Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own - U2
The Public Service Announcement for One.org
Starting at aprox 11AM this Saturday, this short playlist will loop endlessly until Live 8 has concluded, at which point we will return to our regularly scheduled programming. If you have a one.org white band be sure and wear it on Saturday (at a minimum). If you don’t have a white band - make one.
Of course, be sure and watch the Live 8 concerts, it should be another amazing event! Let’s pray that it is successful as well.

PS: Of course #2 above is null and void if I am successful at hijacking one of AOL’s audio streams and rebroadcasting it here on 80s Airwaves! =D
